Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust ® was started in the year 1973 with the objective of rendering social, charitable, educational, and medical services blended with spiritualism to the people of Karnataka and NRI community of the world under the stewardship of the pontiff of Sri Adichunchanagiri Math Paramapoojya Jagadguru Padmabhushana Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadaranatha Mahaswamiji who is also President of the trust.
The Trust is running more than 450 Educational institutions in Karnataka which includes Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Blind, Orphanage and Sanskrit schools and colleges, Science, Arts and Commerce degree colleges, Professional colleges like Teacher Education institutions, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Medical Science, Research Centers and other Vocational and Training courses

Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji assumed the holy chair of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math in 1974. Poojya Mahaswamiji was truly an enlightened soul. He treated all the people alike without discriminating on the basis of caste, creed, gender or social status. His approach towards handling different problems was truly scientific and logical. He implicitly understood the importance of education to the masses in alleviation of poverty.
Poojya Mahaswamiji was a great visionary with a perfect blend of science and spirituality. He was primarily instrumental in establishing Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust that runs more than 500+ Educational institutions catering for about 130000 students across the country to impart quality education from primary to Professional Courses with a special focus on young people of semi-urban and rural areas.
Mahaswamiji had a vision of serving the humanity in eight fold areas of Adhyathmika (Spirituality), Anna (Free Food), Akshara (Knowledge), Arogya (Health), Ashraya (Shelter), Anukampa (Helping Hands), Aranya (Afforestation), Akalu (Cattle Protection) was exemplary and noteworthy.
He was rewarded and conferred with innumerable titles for his services in the field of Education, Health, Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural and Environmental activities. Most prominent among them are “Padma Bhushan, Doctor Honoris Causa, Saadhanaacharya, Akshaya Santha Sanatana, Dharmarathna, Seva Soorya, Vidya Samrat, Parisara Rathna, Abhinava Vivekananda, Rashtriya Ekatha Prashasthi” and so on.

His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji anointed as the 72nd Pontiff of Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math as successor to his Guru, Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji in the year 2013.
Poojya Mahaswamiji, unlike many other youngsters, had an inclination towards Spirituality, Science and Service rather than Materialism. He adapted an ascetic life in 1998 and underwent formal training in the traditional knowledge systems. His unquenchable thirst for knowledge is evident from his attitude in conferences and functions wherein he listens to the discourses on Vedas, Upanishads and other Shastras like an eager young student.
Poojya Mahaswamiji, aided by his educational background and interest in Engineering has incorporated Modern Technologies and revolutionized the functioning of all the Institutions of Shikshana Trust. He has taken up the initiative of introducing computerized working environment in all the Academic and Administrative activities of the institutions.
The Vision of Poojya Mahaswamiji is to follow the footsteps of his Guru, working tirelessly to “Preserve, Promote, Pursue and Progress with Passion in the Path of his Patriarch” His Holiness was conferred with “Doctor Honoris Causa” (Honorary Doctor of Science) by the University of Mysore, Karnataka in 2016.

Dr. S. Chandrashekar Shetty is Chief Sight First Technical Advisor, India & Sri Lanka, Lions Clubs International Foundation, Member, Board of Management of Nitte and JSS Deemed to be Universities, Chairman, Peer Team, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore and Chairman, Advisory Committee of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Public Health & Centre for Disease Control (A unit of RGHUS), Bangalore.
Formerly, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Sri Devaraj Urs Deemed to be University, Kolar, Vice Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka, Advisor, National Program for Control of Blindness, Karnataka, Director, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, Bangalore, Chairman of the and Advisor – National Program for Control of Blindness, Karnataka.
Dr.Shetty an Ophthalmologist by training, held teaching positions in Government Medical Colleges of Hubli, Mysore and Bangalore. He was awarded with a WHO Fellowship training in Vitreo- Retinal Surgery at Moorefield’s Eye Hospital, London and short training at Eye & Ear infirmary, Chicago, Illinois, Sydney Eye Hospital and Eye & Ear Infirmary, Melbourne, Australia.
As Technical Advisor, Sight First program, Lions Clubs International for South India and Sri Lanka since 1991, he has been responsible for developing more than 100 Eye Care projects worth 23 million US dollars. Financial assistance was given for conducting more than 5 lakh Free Cataract Surgeries to the poorest of poor patients in South India and Sri Lanka.
He was conferred with Honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and Odessa State Medical University, Ukraine for his contribution to the field of Medical Education and Community Ophthalmology. He has been recipient of many State, National and International Orations, Awards and Recognitions.
Prof. K. Byrappa
Pro Vice Chancellor, Adichunchanagiri University
Prof. K. Byrappa , obtained his Master’s degree from the University of Mysore with Distinction, Rank and Medals, and Ph.D. and Post-Doc both from Moscow State University, Russia (one of the top ten Universities in the world during that time). He has spent about 31 years at the University of Mysore in different capacities before becoming the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Karnataka during June 2014. Currently from July 2018, he is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University, located near Mysore. He is specialized in Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Solid State Science, Crystal Growth, Chemistry of Materials, Crystallography, Crystal Chemistry, Experimental Mineralogy, and Environmental Science.
He is involved in inter-disciplinary research worth of Rs. 75 Crores at the University of Mysore and has successfully guided 21 students for their Ph.D and about 8 scholars are currently working under his guidance. His individual contribution to the h-index of the University of Mysore is about 25% with the most highly cited papers to his credit. He is the founder Coordinator of the M.Tech. course in Materials Science, Centre for Materials Science and Technology. He was the Chief Coordinators for the project of University with Potential for Excellence (UPE), and also for the Center with Potential for Excellence in a Particular Area (CPEPA). Also, he was the Founder Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, at the University of Mysore. He has been recognized as Ph.D. Guide in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, and Microbiology. After his Ph.D. from Russia, he has worked in several international laboratories abroad and visited more than 76 countries.
A renowned academician and researcher Prof.K. Byrappa has over 370 research publications in International journals with over 6900 citations and is known as a world authority in hydrothermal technology. In addition to this, he has over 32 book chapters and reviews, and has edited 10 books and authored a famous Handbook of Hydrothermal Technology, published by Elsevier Publishers, UK in two editions, and the third edition is in preparation. He is serving as Editor in Chief and Senior Associate Editor, and also Editor of several international journals from highly reputed international publishers. Also he has edited about 5 Special Editions of Materials Science Journals published by international publishers from USA, UK and Germany. He is an Elected Fellow, Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), London, UK; Elected Fellow of World Academy of Ceramics, Italy and also an Elected Fellow of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, Japan. Also the Secretary General of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials. He has received several awards like Dr. Raja Ramanna Award for Science and Technology (2011), the highest state award from Karnataka Government, the Sir C.V. Raman Award in Physical Sciences (1998), Materials Research Society of India Medal (2004), and Golden Jubilee Awards twice during 1987 and 1992 for best research work in the University of Mysore. He was awarded Sir C.V. Raman Birth Centenary Award for the year 2016-17 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in recognition of his contribution to Science and Technology in India. Also he has received the Attractive Paper award in the IX International Conference on Crystal Growth, held in Japan during August 1989. He has also been conferred the Educational Leadership award by VijayVani, Bangalore in 2015. He is also serving in the international bodies, and Indian National Science Academy (INSA) committees. He has widely travelled all over the world and has spent about 15 years in Japan, Russia, USA, Spain, Germany, England, etc. Previously as Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, he was involved in several innovative programs to promote Mangalore University at the International level as one of the fast growing universities. For the first time, he has brought more than 300 international students on the campus from over 35 countries to Mangalore University. He promoted inter-disciplinary research. He has brought some of the finest academicians from all over the world to Mangalore University as Adjunct Professors. The campus beautification was given the highest priority with cleanliness and environmental awareness among the students. E-governance, Campus wide Wi-Fi and sophisticated Campus Surveillance system has been provided. Today Mangalore University is ranked No. 1 university in Karnataka state. Currently, Prof.K. Byrappa is working as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University (ACU) in Mandya District, and has initiated several innovative academic programs in ACU with inter-disciplinary research involving Medical, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Applied Science faculty and researchers, and establishing Centers of Excellence.
