Dr. M. A. Shekar is a renowned figure in the Indian medical landscape, particularly in the domain of diabetes and endocrinology. Presently, he serves as the Vice Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University, responsible for steering its academic vision. He received his MBBS (1981) and MD (Internal Medicine, 1985) from the prestigious Government Medical College, Mysore, and the University of Mysore, respectively, establishing a solid foundation for his illustrious career. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was conferred with FRCP (Edinburgh, 2019).

Dr. Shekar's career reflects his commitment to compassionate patient care, expertise in medical research, and academic excellence. He established the Apoorva Diabetes Foundation, focused on delivering comprehensive diabetes care, and serves as a founding Diabetologist. He is also the Director of the Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research and the Dean of the Government Dental College & Research Institute. Dr. Shekar has held several leadership positions, including Director of Medical Education (DME), Director & Dean at Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, and Head of the Department of Endocrinology at Mysore Medical College & Research Institute, where he made significant contributions to the field.

Dr. Shekar's contributions extend beyond institutional walls. He has served as an Inspector for the Medical Council of India and a member of esteemed bodies like the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), India. He played a pivotal role in selecting future medical professionals as a Selection Committee Member for UPSC, India. Additionally, he has actively contributed to academic development through his involvement in the Academic Council of RGUHS, Bangalore, and the Governing Council of Yuvaraja's College, Mysuru.

Dr. Shekar's achievements extend beyond his administrative roles. He has served as the Chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Committee at NADRI, Bengaluru, and has been recognized as a thought leader in the field. His numerous accolades reflect his unwavering commitment to medicine, including academic honors like first-class distinctions in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Medicine, along with prestigious awards like the Dr. B. C. Roy Award and recognition as a "Best Teacher" by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore. His dedication to diabetes care has been acknowledged with a "Lifetime Achievement" award by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India's Karnataka Chapter. His pursuit of knowledge is evident in his active memberships in numerous professional bodies, including the International Diabetes Federation and the Telemedicine Society of India. He has actively contributed to the medical community by presenting research and delivering lectures at national and state conferences. Dr. Shekar's life extends beyond the confines of medicine. He enjoys sports such as tennis and swimming and has a passion for music, enjoying both Indian classical and Western forms. As an avid reader, he indulges in non-fiction, exploring lost civilizations and mythology, and science fiction.
