B.Ed Program

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Programme is a two year professional programme in the field of Teacher Education which aims at preparing School Teachers, generally known as B.Ed. This is a professional programme that prepares teachers for upper primary, secondary level (Class VI –X) and higher secondary level classes (XI-XII). Also aims at preparing, practitioners and other educational professionals including manpower for curriculum development, planners, administrators, supervisors, school principals and for extension activities.

Medium of Instruction: Medium of instruction for the course is English. However, candidates may write the examination in Kannada for all papers except for language pedagogy papers. The language pedagogy paper shall be written in the language as directed in the subject of study.

PO1: Professional Knowledge: The students will acquire strong fundamental professional knowledge and adequate information regarding the basic principles of the teaching-learning process. This will enable the utilization of the attained knowledge and its application at the global level.

PO2: Social responsibilities: Students will develop positive perspectives towards Indian social values and international values. Thus, they will inculcate acquired social qualities, which will enable them to bring about positive changes in society, the nation, and the world.

PO3: Professional Ethics: Students will demonstrate knowledge of professional ethics that is suitable for their profession. These ethics will enhance the efficiency of educational systems at the national and global levels to provide quality education. They will be role models for future students and other members of society, and this will create an ideal society as a whole.

PO4: Professional Identification: The students will adhere to their professional code of ethics and shall act as an integral part of the education system. They will understand, analyse, and communicate the value of their professional roles in society at a national and global level.

PO5: Analytical Skills: The students will develop skills in the analysis of various teaching objectives, teaching skills, action research activities, etc. They will demonstrate their skills to use modern educational tools, software, and equipment necessary for their educational and related activities and will be able to enhance their professional abilities at a national and global level.

PO6: Leadership Skills: The students will develop interpersonal skills such as influencing others, negotiating and working with others, conflict management, and leading others through the problem- solving process. They will be able to lead and function on an individual basis, as a member of the team, and provide leadership at the national and global levels.

PO7: Communication Skill: The students will acquire excellent interpersonal oral communication and writing skills. They will demonstrate their ability to use verbal communication in preparing and presenting lesson plans and related activities.

PO8: Evaluation Skill: The students will be acquainted with the evaluation skills necessary for testing the acquired knowledge and to bring about necessary modifications in the techniques of imparting and receiving knowledge.

PO9: Guidance Ability: Students will be able to know and understand the various types of career opportunities by availing themselves according to their capabilities. The students will be able to identify various personal, academic, and vocational problems faced by school-going students. They will be trained in the techniques of providing effective guidance to such students and making those successful global citizens.

PO10: Rational Thinking: Students will be able to develop rational thinking and utilize it to arrive at conclusions, which will facilitate the process of decision-making about various activities and documents.

Details of Number of Working Days, Credits & Marks

There shall be at least 200 working days each year and 100 working days for each semester, excluding the period of admission and inclusive of classroom transactions, practicum, field study and conduct of the examination. The department/college shall work for a minimum of 36 hours in a week during which faculty and students concerned with the conduct of the programme shall be available all the time for interaction, dialogue, consultation and mentoring programme.
